Winter holidays are becoming less about sports and more about relaxation, according to ski industry experts.
Laurent Reynaud, who is the general delegate of France's national ski lift operator, has claimed that the idea of spending a whole day turfing down a mountain on a pair of skis or a snowboard is becoming a thing of the past.
Speaking to The Associated Press, he pointed out that the average amount of time tourists are spending on the slopes has dropped from six hours to four hours over the last couple of decades.
It would appear that many families are keener perhaps to rent a car and explore the other activities on offer in winter holiday resorts instead.
"The state of mind of holiday-makers has changed in 30 years. Nowadays it's not so much about effort as about enjoyment. People used to come here for sport - now they come for pleasure," Reynaud said.
Mail Online added that in response to this news, a number of hotels in France have become keen to offer activities to tourists who have travelled to the resort for reasons other than hitting the slopes. Spas, swimming pools and disco clubs are all proving to be increasingly popular amongst winter tourists, it was claimed.
