Panagía Mavriótissa Monastery <!-- ReligiousBuildings isempty -->

Panagía Mavriótissa Monastery was built in the Macedonian style with twin churches. The main Church of the Virgin (Panagía) dates from c 1000. Its exterior south wall is decorated with 13C frescoes, in particular the Tree of Jesse. The Last Judgement with the long-toothed damned is depicted in the narthex. There are 12C frescoes on some of the walls. The Chapel of John the Evangelist was added in the 16C.

Préspa Lakes <!-- CastlesOrStatelyHomes isempty -->

The two Préspa Lakes (Límnes Préspes) are located on the border of Albania and Macedonia. Little Préspa Lake was designated a national park in 1974 together with the Greek section of Great Préspa Lake. Not to be missed: the water birds living around Little Préspa Lake, and the 11C Byzantine churches on the larger of its two islands. Boat excursions on Great Préspa Lake take visitors to the rugged cliffs with caves painted by hermits in the 14C and 15C.

Museum of Folk Traditions <!-- Museums isempty -->

The Museum of Folk Traditions is housed in the Nerándzis Aïvázis Mansion, built in the 17C. It is simpler and has less ornate decorations than later mansions, but the interior gives a good idea of the life of a wealthy Macedonian family in earlier times.

Panagía Koubelídiki Church <!-- HistoricStreetsAndDistricts isempty -->

Panagía Koubelídiki, dedicated to the Virgin, is the only domed church in Kastoriá with a tall drum. It was probably built in the mid-9C. The frescoes in the porch date from 1496. Those in the cross-plan interior are 13C, except for the ones in the apse which are 17C. The narthex vaulting bears the Holy Trinity, which is rarely represented in the Byzantine tradition. Note the Dormition of the Virgin in the nave above the narthex door.
